THE OPPORTUNITY
Girl Scouts of Utah is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA to deliver Girl Scout programs across Utah. The Council strives to serve girls of all races and ethnicities, without regard to income, and serves 5,776 girls and 3,382 adult volunteers, with 38 full- and part-time employees. The Council’s budget is $5.7 million, and its combined facilities include three service centers and two camp properties. Girl Scouts of Utah is where girls bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world.
The Chief Membership Officer (CMO) is a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the CEO. The CMO will work from the headquarters, and will manage a complement of 14 staff. This individual is responsible for membership of girls and volunteers. This includes the development of plans and campaigns for recruitment, placement, and retention.
Principal objectives for the CMO are in areas of:
• Community Outreach and engagement
• Increasing and retaining girl and adult membership
• Volunteer engagement, development, and motivation
• Upholding diversity as a core value of the Council

Requirements
Candidates for the position of CMO are expected to have a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible field and management experience in operations relating to membership, recruitment, and events management, and at least six years of leadership experience. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training is required; advanced degree preferred.
This position requires exceptional skills in areas including project management, marketing, and financial management, along with the ability to oversee multiple tasks simultaneously. Candidates must be capable public speakers who can articulate goals and engage, persuade, and inspire a broad group of stakeholders. The CMO is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive year-round membership plans to substantially grow girl membership and volunteer engagement. The CMO serves as a member of the executive team charged with managing all operations-related activities and day-to-day responsibilities of co-developing and administering the Council’s strategic plan.
Experience in volunteer development and management is highly desirable. Individuals from the world of Girl Scouts, other nonprofits, and organizations with marketing and sales planning are encouraged to apply.
